Autobiographical Information
My name is Ann. But I guess you probably knew that already. In other glaringly obvious statements, I am a female who loves sports. I’m born and raised in the Bay Area with my hometown being San Jose, but I live in Los Angeles for most of the year for school. I am a Communication major at the University of Southern California, after trying out a wide variety of other majors such as geology, computer science, film studies, journalism, history, and electrical engineering.
I’m 20 years old with a family I absolutely adore: my parents, my two younger brothers (Jackson, 18 and Douglas, 16), and my dog. I have an obsessive personality, which basically means if I start getting into it, I obsess over it and want to learn absolutely everything about it until I eventually get tired of it. This has led to expertise in areas such as ice hockey, suburban real estate, and post-Crisis Superman. I also collect completely inconsequential facts, which is useful only for sporcle.
I have had web design experience since I was 9 years old, getting hook through the notorious web design gateway site that is Neopets. And as the internet got out of the 1990s (which we are all thankful for, I’m sure), I started graphic design when I was 11 years old in response to the fact that you could no longer rely on text-based design. Over the years, I have designed MySpace layouts for my friends, web sites for various class projects and clients, and tshirts. I have also taught web and graphic design at a technology camp to kids. This means I also know some Flash, but let’s be honest, Flash is so passe.
My taste in media entertainment varies often. Classic rock is a constant, however; Aerosmith, Journey, the Beatles, and Creedence Clearwater Revival are a few of my favorite bands. I love pure pop – stuff that’s unabashedly sweet and doesn’t pretend to be anything more than it is. Country is starting to take over my playlist as it becomes popified, which I’m perfectly fine with. Soundtracks and nostalgia also drive a large part of my music tastes. Non-mainstream rap and anything indie are the only genres that I absolutely cannot listen to, which kind of makes me the anti-hipster.
Sports, though, are my thing. I love the San Jose Sharks and San Francisco Giants, and casually follow the San Francisco 49ers. I’m a big fan of Trojan football; I haven’t missed watching a game since I was accepted to USC. And loving the Trojans while in the Bay is something akin to liking the Yankees in Boston – people are going to yell at you. I am currently a left winger on USC’s women’s ice hockey, the only collegiate women’s ice hockey team in the state of California.
I love everything Disney. I still own all my old VHS tapes of the Disney classics, have the soundtracks to all the movies and the the Disney theme parks, and I obsessively read Disney park message boards for updates on parks that I either have not visited in 6+ months or have never visited. One of my proudest accomplishments is having eaten lunch at Club 33. I’m pretty sure I know Disneyland better than USC’s campus or even my own neighborhood. My goal in life is to visit every Disney park, ride every ride, and eat at every restaurant.
Fools and Sages was created as an outlet for photoshopping, web design, and hockey rants. I currently attend school in Southern California, but do not hesitate to yell "BEAT LA!" As a Sharks fan, I will defend Patrick Marleau to the death. I have stats, and I'm not afraid to use them.
