Miracle on Ice Wallpapers

The 30th anniversary of the famous “Miracle on Ice” is on Monday, and so in honor of the anniversary, I made two wallpapers to commemorate the famous team. I’ve only made one resolution, but if you want a smaller resolution I’ll be happy to do so.

Doppelgangers at College

If you don’t know this already, I’m off at college now. Whole new world, living on my own, and so on. Well, in this whole new world comes whole new people. Except that those people look an awful lot like people that I already know… of.

I have no pictures, because going around campus taking pictures of random people would make me look crazy, so allow me to use half-assed photoshops to make my point.

The first look-alike I came across was a dead ringer for Giants pitcher Matt Cain, only shorter, thinner, and more flamboyant.

Second is this guy I saw walking around campus once at night. Looked exactly like Patrick Marleau, only with lots of beer. Well, it’s mainly the monster eyebrows that make him look like Marleau, but still.

The last one I saw isn’t exactly a doppelganger, it’s more of an unholy union. You know Conan’s whole “If they had kids” segment? Yeah, it’s like that.

*Note: Okay, so that’s not exactly what the guy looks like, but it is an uncanny resemblance. A bit of Matt Barkley in there as well.

The Dark Knight Poster Tutorial

Since last year, I’ve been making posters parodying the Dark Knight posters featuring Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent, like this Todd McLellan one for the Sharks. Since its a fairly simple process after all the particulars are worked out, I’ve decided to create a tutorial so others can do the same.

I also included PSDs for both a regular (small) version and a large version, so you don’t technically have to follow the tutorial and just use those, but what’s the fun in that?

First, copy and paste the following picture into Photoshop.

Find a picture you want to use for the face. The face should be fairly large, with the face straight forward and a grim expression. That means NO SMILING. Just look at Harvey Dent’s face as a comparison.

Then follow these layer styles as noted; you should end up with 30 layers, not including the background layer that is automatically there.

30. Gradient Map BW soft light 30%

29. Name Here transform (tilt)

Name Here: Arial Black, 13pt (adjust as necessary), text-spacing -50, height 165%, width 105%, #d5e4ed

28. Title layer mask BW gradient over – a bit above the bottom center

Title: Arial Black, 11pt, text-spacing 1020, #899eaa

27. Date – positioned bottom-center

Date Here: Arial Black, 7pt, text-spacing 200, #6e93b3

25. Bottom bar #030206 lighten – so it covers the logo

24. Color box #030206 over logo 65%

23. Logo multiply – right over the date, underneath the title.

22. Color fill #2c5566 overlay – erase all but over logo

22. Logo copy 1 copy (sat +100, all white) radial blur – zoom – 100.

21. Logo copy 1 sat +100 (all white)

15.-20. Names x6 – evenly spaced out at the top; each full name gets an individual layer.

First: Arial, 4pt, 6pt line height, text-spacing 200, #71828c
Last: Arial, 6pt, 6pt line height, text-spacing 200, #71828c

14. Clone stamp – cover up name with red button background

13. Brush #030206 – use to define face, cover up anything not wanted

12. Reference pic – layer mask, erase face

11. Color fill #050409 lighten

10. Color fill #2c5566 overlay

9. Levels RGB input: 16 1.08 224

8. Picture copy 3 BW (sat -100; CTRL+U) soft light

7. Color fill #a0ccd9 normal 20%

6. Curves RGB coordinates: 81,63 183,177

5. Gradiant Map BW

4. Picture copy 2 soft light

3. Picture copy 1 screen

2. Picture – set opacity to 60% and transform so that the size and angle of the face lines up with Dent’s.

Well, I have been pretty busy on the Photoshop front lately, but haven’t gotten around to adding everything to their appropriate sections. So today I decided to do so, with 14 new hockey manips, three new banners, and two new icons.

As this has become increasingly a hockey-related site, also expect to find a new “Hockey” category soon, so you won’t have to search through all the other categories. All the content will remain, so if you ever have an urge to look up some Beatles icons or something, they will be there.

NHL Regular Season in Review

Another thing I do when I’m bored. And yes, there could be a lot more (like return of Claude Lemieux, Willie Mitchell’s long stick, the trade dealine, etc.) but these are the ones that I think are the most prominent stories throughout the year. I tried to make it as non-biased as I could, so hopefully that comes through.
