7.14 – Traveler Review

Traveler, an episode that tried so hard to tie in the past seasons. It was pretty cool how they actually remembered things that happened in *gasps* the first four seasons.

It starts out with the return of the overdramatic opera- and after last week’s episode of Hero with the alt-rock overkill, its almost welcome. Almost. I still don’t like opera.

The key is hidden in a book. You know, that might be why Clark’s so dumb sometimes- he hides things in books, and so he cannot read said books.

I find it extremely amusing that during the commercial break, there was an ad for 5 gum. Not Stride, but 5. I know it doesn’t have anything to do with this episode, but I still find it amusing.

Whenever someone accuses Lionel of killing everyone in Veritas, I just cannot help but think, “Except for Genevive Teague. That was all Lana.” So really, she must be part of Veritas as well. Or Isobel is.

Did anyone else catch the caption in Kara’s fake yearbook page? “I will be modeling this summer.” WTF?!?!? That’s possibly the most random thing I have ever seen.

Stupid statement from Chloe- “This is Clark’s worst fear.” Really just shows how much she knows him. Especially since his greatest fear is being alone. That’s been established pretty much every time we take a dive into Clark’s psyche. If this was Lois and Clark, I’d agree, but here, not so much.

Speaking of Lois and Clark, that cage looked quite familiar. And that psycho guy… he’s like, pseudo-Trask. Its almost as if they decided to take some of the most villainous elements from the first season of LnC and put it into this episode.

So, Lex quadrupled his security. That means its on par with mall security guards, right? And that home invasion tunnel- must be used at least once a week, accounting for all the times people invade his CASTLE. Seriously, I thought those were supposed to be near-impenetrable or something. Obviously, not.

Lionel’s reasoning with Pierce was a bit odd- Pierce kept saying how he “terminated” the meteor freaks, which he obviously considers much more human than Clark. And yet, Lionel tries to dissuade Pierce from killing Clark by telling him that its murder? Personally, I just don’t think Pierce has a problem with murder.

Its official- Patricia Swann is Raya 2.0. Telling him to accept his destiny to do great things, to accept his heritage, and then getting killed right after Clark gets to know her.

Now its Clark vs the Luthors again. You know, Pete would be proud. If only he stuck around for one more week, he could do a big “I TOLD YOU SO” and totally rub it in Clark’s face.

And is it just me, or did Lionel look sort of pained and sick in that last scene of his? It could just be because he feels bad- or slightly scared- about keeping Clark locked up in a cage of kryptonite and having to lie, but I’m just feeling that there might be an overlying health problem that Lionel has.
But, overall, I thought the episode was pretty good. It had a nice amount of action, and the whole Veritas society just makes things extremely interesting, since they were able to tie in the idea to things from earlier seasons without being contradictory (from what I noticed). Its finally a storyline that’s not entirely predictable, especially since Lionel has been so ambiguous for so long. I’m really looking forward to next week’s episode, which should be extremely interesting.
