Bright Teal & Orange

If you’ve seen any of my San Jose Sharks stuff, a lot of them have the same coloring. Like it, but don’t know how to replicate it? Don’t fret! I have a tutorial just for you.

First, get an image. I chose one of the Sharks (duh), featuring Ryane Clowe, Alexei Semenov, Joe Thornton, and Devin Setoguchi at the annual Teal and White game (one of these things is not like the other, one of these things doesn’t belong…).

First, I need to prep the image, making the colors brighter and contrast more. I duplicate the image twice (Ctrl+J). For the first copy, I set it to Soft Light at 100%. The second copy I set to Screen at 55%. Pops a lot more, doesn’t it?

Because I like to really bring out the colors, I added a new Hue/Saturation layer (Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Hue/Saturation). For Master, I increased the Saturation to +23.

Next comes the most time-consuming part – the Selective Color layers. Create one (Layer >> New Adjustment Layer >> Selective Colors) and fill in the numbers in the image below.

Can’t read them? Here’s a text-based version:
Reds: -72 / +24 / +29 / +10
Cyans: +24 / +8 / +8 / +20
Blues: +53 / +13 / +41 / -27
Whites: -56 / -22 / +47 / -25
Neutrals: +4 / +6 / -1 / -1

Now, duplicate that Selective Colors layer (once again, Ctrl+J). BUT, we have to change a few of the colors. The image below shows what you have to do:

Still can’t read them? Or need to check what all the values are, not just the changed ones? Here’s a text-based version:
Reds: -72 / +24 / +29 / +10
Cyans: +35 / +8 / +31 / +35
Blues: +80 / +41 / +100 / +11
Whites: -56 / -22 / +47 / -25
Neutrals: +4 / +6 / -1 / -1
Blacks: +0 /+0 / +0 / +7

Now, set both Selective Color layers to Color. Tada! You’re finished. Here’s what mine came out to; as you can see, the colors are much brighter, and teals, oranges, and reds are all emphasized.
